A Scenic Valley just outside of Galesville, WI was the site of a fantastic wedding reception this evening. Ashley, Wally, their family and friends enjoyed a beautiful sunset followed by a night of dancing under the stars. What a fantastic day! Congratulations Ashley and Wally Boehm!

December 7th, 2011An Ocean Sunrise
November 23rd, 2011Sunrises have always been one of my favorite times of the day. To me it is a time of peace, a time of reflection on yesterdays thought and todays dreams. A calm before the storm as we set out into our busy lives.
As the sun slowly makes its way up above the horizon it provides a wonderful light for photography, changing with every passing moment. The challenge of working with a light that is changing so quickly is all part of the fun.
For this particular shot I had spent the previous day checking out locations that might provide an interesting foreground. Other variables such as wave height and sky cover were going to be out of my control. Noting the location for which the sun would be rising, the spot was chosen.
Armed with my Nikon D700, a 24-70mm 2.8 and an 8 stop Neutral density filter I set out to the break wall at the Palmas Del Mar marina in Puerto Rico at 0545. The breakwall is made up of large boulders descending 25 feet down into the Ocean.
The waves crashed upon the rocks as the crabs and geckos scattered at my early morning presence. The camera was set and the exposures made. Bracketing several frames with exposures ranging from 4 to 30 seconds the waves that had traveled the Atlantic turned to mist inside my camera and the image was made.

Date: July 16th, 2011
Location: Red Wing, MN
Weather: Hot/Humid w/ slight overcast and light breeze
Although I have lived in Red Wing most of my life this was a first for me. A wedding in Red Wing’s Levee Park! With the Mississippi River as the backdrop Michelle and Kurt’s wedding was as perfect as one could ask for. The historic Milwaukee Road Train Depot adjoining the park provided a second venue for fantastic photos and air conditioning to escape the very warm temperatures. A reception on the 5th floor of the St. James Hotel rounded out the day, providing a sunset view of the Mississippi River below as the guests danced into the night.
Chan and Stephanie – Duluth, MN – September 22, 2009
December 15th, 2010Date: September 22, 2009
Location: Duluth, MN
Weather: Sunny/ slight overcast with no wind
Duluth Minnesota provided a spectacular back drop for Chan and Stephanie’s late September wedding. The wedding ceremony was held outside at the Duluth Aquarium, the upper Duluth harbor providing the backdrop. The late afternoon wedding did provide some challenges as the September sun was nearly gone by the time the Bride and Groom had walked down the aisle. Shooting at high ISO and with fast lenses were at the saving grace.
Before the ceremony we did have the opportunity to visit some of Duluth’s wonderful landmarks, including the Enger Tower and Canal Park. At these locations photos with Chan and Stephanie were nearly effortless as they were both very photogenic and had the ability to strike very well composed and natural poses.
Cory and Shannon – Brooklyn Park, MN – September 25, 2010
September 27th, 2010Cory and Shannon – Brooklyn Park, MN – September 25, 2010
Cory and Shannon Erickson are a couple that I recently had the pleasure of photographing their wedding. I have known Cory’s family for many years and have had the pleasure of photographing both of his sisters weddings. This wedding provided a wonderful setting for photographs, using the structures that were available to us and the natural light photos at the church turned out wonderfully. This photo using the western side of the chapel provided a nice soft light with the repeating pattern of the windows. Letting Cory and Shannon just have time to talk allowed naturally poses photos. The second shot, near St. Anthony falls was later in the afternoon, sun reflecting off a multi-story brick building provided a warm soft light. The limestone foundation and the green foliage accented the photo nicely.
